Rotary Dialer App Reviews

Great little app!

Love the skins and sounds! Very realistic..just like the good old days. Hey, why not incorporate numbers from contacts, so they display on the skin and an option for auto-dial?

Found a coin.

Just discovered this today: Hold your device (Im using the iPhone 5) at about a 10°-15° angle to the right from vertical, and while holding it at that angle, press the Backspace button 17 times. See what happens. Then press it 17 more times. Etc.. SuperDave_GPS Ontario, Canada.

Works as it should, cant change label

Rotary dialing works exactly as the real phones did, with respect to both UI and visual. I suspect those saying it doesnt look right have forgotten or dont realize that the numbers were always written on the background, and dont rotate with the dial. I have to laugh at those who complain that the UI is awkward. Yes! Thats the point! Can you believe we used to make calls that way? The sound isnt the way I remember: mine was slower, but Im sure there were different kinds. My big disappointment--and I know this isnt in the FAQ but I didnt read it first--is that the DYMO label isnt generated from your phone number, and the label isnt customizable at all. I would much prefer to be able to put my own label there, even if I had to provide a bitmap. Or even if I could just peel off the existing labels and have just the gummy mess. I hope thats added soon.

Super cool

Fun app.. Love the Steampunk rotary.. Wish it was the main dial face when I opened the phone from the phone button but the app icon us right there anyway.. ;-)

Pretty good

Hasnt been updated three years. Sometimes goes silent, have to reload to get dialing sound back. And speaking of sound, why no dial tone?

Great Idea! Could be even better.

A few more old phone face plates would be nice ... I like the Original, but wish there were a way to put my area code and number, or no stickers at all. And more authentic sounds would be great too. Great idea, though. Thanks.

too ugly

I love the way it works, but why not make an option for a good looking dial too while youre at it? Thanks

Good, but dials too fast to be realistic

App is quite good, and the sound effects are realistic enough -- with one glaring error: it dials too quickly. The old phone systems in the US were designed to accept 10 dial pulses a second, and every rotary phone was built to that standard. The dial animation runs at *20*, so the cadence is off, the whir of the dial mechanism is too high, and it just plain sounds *wrong*. (I have several Western Electric-built rotary phones, so I know what one should sound like.) Now Im sure that most people might prefer the faster dial speed so as to not be inconvenienced too much when dialing, but remember: this is a *novelty* app--you wouldnt use this all day to place calls.

Pure Nostalgic Goodness

Having grown up with a rotary phone in the house, this app brings back nothing but good memories. The clickity-clack of the dialer just was fun to listen to. Now I can have the same fun again, only without the hassle of starting from scratch on a mis-dial. If you had a rotary phone or never had one, this is a must buy app!!!

Awsome

Trick Tap quickly on the backspace and a coin will apear

Fun, Cool, Realistic, but...

This app is really cool, and I find it really interesting and unique, but the dial is too fast. Acual rotary phones run slower, and the standard speed for a rotary phone was far exceeded in this app.

Cute

The sounds were so wrong that it was so dissapointing. The dialer skins arent very cool they have no depth. The most realistic skin is the old icky plastic roto dialer which is pretty cool actually. All in all the app is lacking no matter what since the sounds leave you thinking of anything but a roto phone.

YAY!

Always wanted one of the old phones, but could never find one. So, when I saw this app I was super excited. But, I couldnt afford it. So, I was happy to see it was free. Definitely worth the money. Nearly perfect.

Not bad

Being the age I am I DO remember rotary phones. This app is pretty cool, but the sound is a bit off. Other than that, it is a fun reminder of practicing dialing really fast for those radio call in contests.

Great work

Now is it possible to include the address book with this app. Or somehow integrate the add book along with setting of this. Giving them another choice. Im sure lot of us do not remember no more than 5 phone #s. So then after that what we do? We got to go back to add book and then come back to this app to the dialed .. Hmmm

Absolutely Pointless!

A complete waste of time - nothing to see here! Move on!

Fun app works great

Well designed fun, functional and silly app, cool themes. The developer is great, very helpful and responsive.

Fabulous!

One of my favorite apps. Totally cool and I love it, thank you!!

Excellent simulation

Practical? Maybe not. But a great bit of telecom nostalgia. Im pleased with the attention to detail. Example: if you dont bring your finger all the way around, youll dial a lower digit than the one you started on--because thats what a real phone dial does! Id like to see more images of real phone dials and hear more dialing sounds (a dial from the 70s sounds a lot different than one from the 40s). Still, I think its great--brings back memories.

Good- but sound is off

Fun graphics. Having remember rotary phones- this is a great addition BUT the sound is way off. Sure would love to have it sound like the real deal.
